Injectaplan Inter-Regional Netball Tournament

Mbale (Sept 25th)

Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) will for the first time in local history have participants compete in regional tournaments.

The initiative that will help grow the sport countrywide has become a reality after the Uganda Health Marketing Group (UHMG) under their Injectaplan brand launched the first ever Inter-Regional Netball Tournament at their office in Ntinda.

The regional tour kicks off this weekend with the Eastern region in Mbale where 12 teams will compete with the top two qualifying for the finals slated for Kampala later this year.

The initiative according to UHMG's chief of party Denis Ahairwe, is intended to double as a platform to spread family planning, Injectaplan awareness and also develop netball talent in the country.

"There is need for parents to plan for their children and this can best be done through family planning that's why we saw it wise to partner with a ladies sport in trying to sensitize the masses" Ahairwe said.

Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) president Suzan Anek added, "This is a dream come true. We have always wanted to spread the game countrywide but our hands are tied due to limited funds."

"You have made the right choice and I promise you that at the end of it all we shall all benefit," Anek said.

The tournament will be hosted in four regions, Eastern, Northern, Western and Central where the top two finalists in each region will converge at Namboole for the finals later this year.

It's the second boost to the sport in less than a month after former FUFA boss Lawrence Mulindwa offered sh10m to the league and late last year the She Cranes were also unveiled as 'Fight Tobacco' ambassadors.
