Today in history: Gov't gives Mumbere amnesty

Government promised to pay for Mumbere’s air ticket, welfare and security in Uganda.

On September 13th 1998 government gave amnesty to Iremangoma of the Bakonzo, Charles Wesley Mumbere after he disassociated himself from the rebellions in the west and his request to government to forget the past. Government promised to pay for Mumbere's air ticket, welfare and security in Uganda.

Mumbere denied involvement in the ADF insurgency and knowledge of its leaders saying he abandoned Bazira's group after realizing that it wasn't right.
