Lwakatakata to fight for Pearl rally title

Fifty two drivers confirmed their participation in the three day event which covers a total distance of 670km of which 235km are competitive.

After a break from rallying due to financial issues, former national rally champion Ponsiano Lwakataka made his intentions in the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda rally clear by registering his participation.

Lwakataka, the 2011 Pearl rally winner will be navigated by Samuel Mugisha after his former navigator George Ssemakula crossed to Kikankane rally team of Duncan Mubiru.

"We are out to compete," Lwakataka stated.

Lwakataka, who returned to rallying this year in February after a long time out due to court battles, took a break after the Masaka rally citing financial constraints.

The 2005 and 2007 NRC champion driving Subaru N8 added that he has never been scared of the powerful cars like Subaru N14 or Mitsubishi Evo10 aka Bisodde.

This year's Pearl event has attracted seven foreign crews who include Muna Singh, Ismail SherMohamed from Zambia, Don Smith (Kenya) Giancarlos Davite, Valery Bukera, Muhammed Abas, and Tufail Tufail.
