KCCA blames private hospitals for poor statistics on diseases

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has blamed private health facilities in Kampala for failing to provide reports on the number of diseases they manage, saying that this is affecting the service delivery since they cannot do proper planning without reliable information.

The director public health and environment, KCCA, Dr. David Serruka said, over 95% of these facilities do not report the number of patients and the diseases they manage and currently KCCA is depending on estimates.

"Hospital reports are very important, because they help us to get the actual figure of disease burden in the city. If facilities do not report, we will never get a clear picture,' Sseruka said this during the opening of a new branch for International medical centre (IMC).

The ministry of health under the Health management information system, requires all health facilities to report the number of clients and the conditions they treat.

It is estimated that about 3 million people are treated in the city but many of them are coming from other districts. The commonest conditions KCCA health facilities treat are Trauma, UTI and Malaria.

The general manager IMC, Joel Oroni however said his facility deliveries reports on a monthly basis to KCCA.

Oroni said his facility offers primary health care, laboratory services and soon they will introduce Ultra sound scan services.
