Karuzika busy ahead of 21st Empango

KABAROLE - King Oyo's palace at Karuzika in Fort Portal municipality in Kabarole district is now a beehive of activities ahead of the 21st coronation anniversary, locally known as Empango, this month.

Bernard Tungakwo, the kingdom's prime minister, said the main palace is currently undergoing major renovation.

"The king's 21st anniversary will be historical in Toro kingdom because we want to put permanent land marks in place," he said.

And with only two weeks to the anniversary, the palace will undergo a facelift which will involve painting and replacing of all the window glasses that have for years been broken.

Tungakwo also disclosed that the roof of the main palace will be worked on during the works.

The kingdom also has plans of erecting two major gates at the entrance to the palace, on top of sealing off the palace premises with a chain fence to control and restrict movement.

Silver Kasoro, the chairperson of the anniversary's organizing committee, has assured all the people of Toro that all construction works will have been completed in time.

Whereas Empango is traditionally held on September 12, Kasoro explained that this year's event was extended to September 17, which will be a weekend so as to accommodate everyone.
