German govt funds climate change campaign

The head of cooperation at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kampala, Udo Weber told the youth that industrialised countries are responsible for climate change urging that mitigating of climate change is the role of young people who are the agents of change.

The Federal Republic of Germany has released euro 12,000 (sh45m) towards the sensitization and mobilisation of the youth on the effects of climate change in the country.

The head of cooperation  at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kampala, Udo Weber told the youth that industrialised countries are responsible for climate change urging that mitigating of climate change is the role of young people who are the agents of change.

Weber was addressing the youth under the umbrella of the Uganda Youth Society for Human Rights (UYOSHUR) during a dialogue in Kampala. He told the youth that Uganda is committed to controlling the effects of climate change by encouraging the use of renewable energy.

He told the youth to develop ideas geared towards controlling climate, explaining that the German government facilitates and share ideas with youth on how to control climate change in their countries.

The executive director UYOSHUR, Anthony Buwande said that for along time, youth in Uganda have not been adamant on issues of climate change, adding that they have sensitized youth in seven districts on issues of climate change.

Buwande said that there is need to tackle climate change as youth in order to over come effects on the country.
