History

About just five years ago, Kitetika was not as popular as it is since it was just a junction connecting Kisaasi and Mpererwe along Gayaza highway.

A few residents got together and decided to start bars which slowly attracted many meat lovers and by 2010, according to Musinguzi James, the place had started to roast goat's meat for the locals. It did not even take a year before more entrepreneurs came in and raised several stalls for themselves. As they say the rest is history.

Business overview

There are daily customers like a one Juma Kinene in this place who won't go home without testing the Kitetika goat's meat and he is one of the most family men who have excuses that their women at home don't prepare the goat's meat as well as the professional goat roasters at Kitetika.

Twinomujuni Polly, who roasts chicken among many who roast goat's meat says business is good and he decided to bring his chicken roasting business around the place because he realised that some consumers like chicken.

Jackson Bukenya, a bar operator says that business can be seasonal. During rainy seasons they sell very few pieces of meat because the place is in a low lying area and it sometimes floods but he insists that business is always good because city people love their meat however expensive.

Pastor Moses Kigato who also roasts meat says that he came to Kitetika to do the meat business because he saw that people loved meat more than religion.

He is known as the pastor of the area and he is very popular amongst other stall owners.

‘Everytime I come to work I first pray for my charcoal stoves, then my workers and then pray that customers come to my stall since it is among the last on your way to Gayaza. But since I am number one, my stall always sells faster than the rest" Bukenya says.

Douglas Mwesiga of Friends Butchery, the biggest stall says he only roasts goat meat because it is the most loved by the locals even though he says that chicken dealers are starting to come in which he believes doesn't affect his market.
