Uganda Prisons Force has introduced Lacrosse as its latest discipline in a bid to become a sporting powerhouse.

Lacrosse federation officials and prisons sports officials have spent the last week teaching both prisons trainees and service officers the game in Luzira.

According to Uganda Prisons' sports officer Robert Iwanve, Lacrosse is one of the three new disciplines (others being Badminton and Baseball) that the force is introducing.

"We are taking up Lacrosse as the latest sport because our officers are very interested in it and we believe we have the potential to do very well in it," Iwanve said as the team trained next to Maroons FC grounds yesterday.

Iwanve believes they have the potential to establish a team as strong as the netball side but his challenge is to convince the top officials of the force to fully fund the discipline in terms of equipment.

"We are looking at a fully equipped club and it will cost us close to sh50m to acquire the equipment," Iwanve said.

At the moment, the prisons force has football, netball, taekwondo, volleyball, athletics, darts, shooting and handball teams.
