“I thank New Vision and Etop for publishing my plight. I now feel relieved after three years of pain,” said Opio.

Following the story in Saturday Vision and New Vision website entitled Boy lives with a compound fracture for three years" on August 13, the boy has reason to smile.

Dr. Raymond Malinga, an orthopedist doctor got touched by the story and looked for Opio. He offered a free operation of the arm to return the bone to its position.

Ivan Opio, the first son of of John Peter Otim and Joyce Mary Asana of Olepi village, Akujatoi Kyere sub-county in Serere district, got the fracture, while playing with his sister in 2013.
According to Malinga, he read the story about Opio in Etop and Saturday Vision.

"It is not good for a parent to leave a child to reach to that extend without medical attention. This is negligent of the highest order," said Malinga.

He said a compound fracture should be corrected within six hours. However, this has taken three years. But since Opio is still young, the arm will become normal again.

Malinga examined the boy from his clinic in Soroti municipality on Sunday and took him to Mbale where he works.

The boy was operated on Monday August 15 and the bone was removed before being discharged with his father that very day.

"I thank New Vision and Etop for publishing my plight. I now feel relieved after three years of pain," said Opio.

His father Otim thanked Vision Group for for exposing his son's problem, which has nowbeen solved.

"May God bless New Vision and Dr. Malinga for the support that they have rendered to my family. I don't have anything to give them, but pray that God blesses them abundantly," said Otim.

Dr. Malinga said the cost of operating Opio was sh2.5m, but he offered to do it for free because he was touched.

"The Bible says what your right hand gives should not be known by the left hand. I don't what anything even exposing me in media because it does not carry any meaning for me to help. God rewards." Dr. malinga explained to the journalists in his office.
