OLYMPICS: Uganda's marathon team departs for Brazil
Aug 15, 2016
Kiprotich said it is easier for the trio to strategise and win the race in Brazil
The team of Uganda's marathon runners has left for the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil ahead of the race in Sunday.
Stephen Kiprotich joined by Salomon Mutai and Jackson Kiprop were flagged off by commissioner of sports Omara Apita and National Council of Sports' Nicholas Muramagi.
At the Olympics, Uganda is going to defend its gold medal that Kiprotich won at the 2012 Games in London.
Unlike, at the London Games where he was the only Ugandan in the race, Kiprotich said it is easier for the trio to strategise and win the race in Brazil.
"With my brothers here, I pray the medals come in this order. We have tried it in training and I know we are good. I know every athlete will be planning for me but I have no pressure as the defending champion" Kiprotich said at the flag off.
