The JKL Dolphins believe in their claims to the 2016 women's National Basketball League (NBL) title.
But without a signature victory, their confidence has been to justify. That changed Sunday after a 71-64 victory over the title chasing KCCA Leopards at the YMCA.
One game does not make champions ut this victory is the sort of triumph needed to strengthen the Dolphins' already healthy self-belief while at the same time giving the rivals reason for concern.
Certainly, Jamila Nansikombi's individual form is a game-changer. She snatched a game-high 27 points against the Leopards while Angella Namirimu added 17 and 15 points respectively.
KCCA resisted through Flavia Oketcho and Joy Chemutai, with 22 and 17 points respectively, but Timothy Odeke's charges left themselves so much work to do after dropping the first quarter 27-8.
JKL won the battle of the boards 36-31 while they had 13 assists to KCCA's 12. JKL and KCCA's biggest threat and defending champions UCU Canons were triumphant in their respective assignment, overpowering the Nkumba Marines 77-59.
Angella Lokwameri, Judith Nansobya and Sara Angeno had 16, 15 and 11 points respectively for UCU while Annet Among added 10.
With game-high 17 points, Brenda Ekone led Nkumba while Ester Apolot and Fina Busingye scored 12 and 11 points respectively.
