KCCA netballers go months without pay

Newly appointed team manager Andrew Mutebi claims that the delay in payment is partly due to the current restructuring

KCCA netball team captain Carol Drazico and teammates recently lost their return leg game against former champions NIC 33-47 over the weekend.

And the same disappointing results are likely to be reproduced this Saturday as they take on Police at Namboole in the other national netball league encounter if KCCA management doesn't endeavour to look into the players' welfare.

It's always not possible to reap what you didn't sow and since the season started; the players have only received pay for two months, April and May while the months of January, February, March, June and July seem not to be reflected anywhere on their accounts.

"The girls recently signed a nine month contract for this season but have only received payment for two month and yet some of them are mothers who have families to look after, so how do they expect them to survive," they said.

Besides playing in the same ageing green and yellow jersey each season, every player on the team according to our sources, is supposed to earn about sh200,000 monthly on top of the transport and training allowance as per the contract that has also at sometimes been delayed.

But newly appointed team manager Andrew Mutebi claims that the delay in payment is partly due to the current restructuring in the organization.

"We want to make KCCA to be one of the top clubs in the country and as you know the restructuring processes comes with some cost but this will be sorted," Mutebi said.

He later admitted the June and July arrears had not been wired to the player's accounts.

"Yes am sure they haven't yet been paid but this is because the monthly reports were submitted late but I talked to them earlier and briefed them about the situation so they are aware and I know management is working around the clock to make sure their arrears are cleared," he said.
