Ugandan police is concerned that these diplomatic number plates may find their way into Uganda.

KAMPALA - Ugandan police have received intelligence information that 58 United Nations motor vehicle number plates were stolen from a UN base in Juba, South Sudan.

Deputy police spokesperson Polly Namaye told the media that the number plates were stolen on July 10 this year.

"The information police has received indicates that 58 United Nations motor vehicle registration number plates were stolen from a UN base in Juba early last month," she said.

Namanye said the police is concerned that these diplomatic number plates may find their way into Uganda and be used for criminal activities.

"With the increasing number of refugees and Ugandan nationals returning from South Sudan, police is afraid that these cars may end up in wrong hands and therefore be used in criminal activities."

Police therefore asked the public to report to the nearest police station in case any of these vehicles are spotted anywhere.
