Kitgum police arrest suspected gang members

Police say majority of the suspects are habitual thugs.

KITGUM - Security operatives have apprehended suspected members of a notorious criminal gang believed to be behind a series of recent attacks on residents in and around Kitgum municipality.

During the operation, police recovered several stolen property.

While parading the suspects before municipality residents and leaders, Kitgum resident district commissioner, William Komakech said the suspects - three of whom are women - are part of an armed gang that has been terrorizing residents.

Kitgum district police commander Jackson Baryamupika identified the suspects as Joseph Kidega, Patrick Aboyi, Ronnie Komakech, Mike Okot Toolanya, Isaac Okellokot, Babra Akello, Nancy Aber and Mercy Atimango.

Baryamupika said majority of the suspects are habitual thugs.

They were arrested in an operation mounted in the sub-counties of Kitgum Matidi, Lagoro and Pandwong division following investigations that linked them to robberies.

The suspects are being held at Kitgum central police station awaiting to be arraigned before court to answer charges of robbery and theft.
