Adjumani senior education officer dies

Ambayo had served as district education officer for Adjumani for five years.

Adjumani district senior education officer Mark Ambayo has died.

He collapsed Tuesday evening while hanging out with friends near Awindri Market in Adjumani town.

Efforts to revive him at the scene were futile, prompting his friends to call an ambulance, which rushed him to Adjumani General Hospital.

But he was pronounced dead by medics shortly after arriving at the health facility.

Ambayo had served as district education officer for Adjumani for five years until July last year. Earlier, he served as inspector of schools from 2002.

He rose through the ranks in a career spanning over three decades. During that time, he taught at City High School in Kampala.

Robert Duma, Adjumani district education officer, was a student of Ambayo back at City High School, said the fallen veteran was a committed Mathematics teacher and dedicated senior servant of the district who "has left a huge gap impossible to fill".

At the time of his death, Amabayo was serving as senior education officer, a position he took up last year after Adjumani receiving a substantive district education officer.
