The party says Police handles criminal cases of the officers selectively

Democratic Party (DP) has said it does not trust the disciplinary department of Police to discipline its errant officers and that they should be tried in criminal courts.

Speaking during a press briefing in Kampala on Tuesday, Abdallah Kiwanuka, an eminent party member said "the disciplinary department of Police is selective when handling criminal cases of the officers".

He said several cases involving police officers have been taken to the disciplinary department of Police but only a few have been resolved.

"We do not trust this department. We want any Police officer involved in criminal acts taken to the courts of law and charged accordingly," he said.

"We want them to be charged in normal courts where they will be charged just like any other criminal, and pay for their crimes," he added.

Kenneth Paul Kakande, the party's publicity secretary on the other hand said the party shall actively start dragging Police officers caught in criminal acts to courts of law as individuals not as government because those tried that way hardly get punished.
