Over 300 city leaders are meeting today in Entebbe to deliberate on issues of managing Kampala.

The elected leaders of Kampala together with the new Kampala minister are at Entebbe Imperial Resort Beach Hotel to plan how they will forge a way forward for Kampala.

According to the Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago the meeting will involve Members of Parliament, ministers of Kampala, and the political and technical wing whose purpose is to see how to carry out their duties as they prepare for the city.

"We have a long journey to go in terms of preparing for Kampala. So we are going to deliberate on several issues," Lukwago said.

Bruhan Byaruhanga, the Kyambogo councillor, explained that they are supposed to train in order to understand how authority meetings are supposed to be handled.

The three-day residential meeting according to KCCA spokesperson Peter Kaujju is training for councillors who have just come into the city. He said that different resource persons from the National Planning Authority and the Ministry of Local government will train the councillors.

He explained that ideas will be exchanges during the orientation and they will be taken through the rules of procedures that they use during their council meetings.

According to a source at City Hall the induction is meant to cater for new members of the council, adding that they last held such a meeting in 2011 when councils were elected into power.

He however said that the councillors will be handled at different levels. He said that the Authority councillors will meet for two days, while the division councils and their mayors will be handled on different days.

KCCA could not explain how much they are expected to spend, but a room at the Entebbe Resort Beach costs $181 per night.
