Police in Tororo have arrested the former LCV councillor representing Kirewa Sub County to Tororo district council over alleged defilement.

Donatius Okumu Kirunda a resident of Abari village Kirewa Sub County is alleged to have committed the offence on 13th July 2016 when he lured a 17-year-old P7 pupil of Agwoki Primary School into sex in a nearby cassava plantation.

Kirunda represented Kirewa sub county in Tororo district council from 2011-2016 the council that passed an ordinance to end child marriage.

The police spokesperson for Bukedi region Kamulya Sowali said after committing the offence, the suspect became aggressive and charged at the mob that wanted to lynch him after the father of the victim made alarm upon discovering them.

He then got a chance and took off to a swamp where the police had running battles with the mob that wanted to lynch him before he was arrested and locked up at Kirewa Police Post.

Kamulya said the girl confessed in her statement that she had intercourse with the suspect at least three times mainly in the evening hours when her parents have gone the nearby centre to have their social evening.

He said according to the medical test, the victim has habitual penetration indicating that she has been severally defiled.

Kamulya said the suspect shall be charged with aggravated defilement having been a leader who should actual have protected the young girl from sexual exploitation.
