After the second round on Wednesday, defending champion Fred Wanzala, Deo Akope and Opio Onito were tied in first place on 149 gross each as the battle for the biggest share of sh15m hots up.

It is too close to call in the professionals’ category as action continues in the third round of the Mbarara Open.

After the second round on Wednesday, defending champion Fred Wanzala, Deo Akope and Opio Onito were tied in first place on 149 gross each as the battle for the biggest share of sh15m hots up.

Day one leader Brian Mwesigwa slipped to second place, two strokes behind but is also tied with Vincent Byamukama on 151 gross.

They are three ties in third place with Lawrence Muhenda, Peter Ssendawula and Brian Toolit all on 153 gross while Abbey Bagalana and Ian Odokonyero are also tied in fourth with 154 gross each. Silver Opio and Gerald Kabuye are also assured of partaking on the cash after making the cut tied in fifth place on 155.

The twelve golfers will share the cash provided by the title sponsors China Railway Seventh Group. The top 50 amateurs of the handicap 0-9 from across the country are also in action in an 18-hole contest.

Adolf Muhumuza, Herman Mutebi and Ronald Rugumayo are the front runners in this category having finished among the top ten last year.
The tournament will climax on Saturday with the rest of the field competing over 18 holes.
