The final verdict was delivered by Justice Patricia Wasswa Basaza.

BUSIA - Geoffrey Macho has won an election petition challenging his victory in the Busia municipality parliamentary race.

His victory of the February parliament election was challenged on April by Kevinah Taaka, Abdulla Tiff Mukasa and Gilbert Amado whom he defeated in the February parliamentary election.

Delivering her judgment inside a full courtroom, Justice Patricia Wasswa Basaza said: "This petition has accordingly failed and is dismissed with costs to all parties."

This was after the judge found all the grounds challenging Macho's academic qualifications, noncompliance with electoral laws and illegal acts during elections deficient and insufficient to annul the elections.

"He who asserts must prove," said Basaza, stressing that the petitioners lacked evidence to substantiate their claims which she described as general and blanket statements.

The judge said that by tendering his resignation to the presidential secretary, Macho had duly resigned.
