Anite’s push to bring together the Moslems is the latest effort to try to bridge the wide gap between the sects.

The investment and privatisation state minister Evelyn Anite has appealed to the fractured community of Moslems in Koboko district to unite ahead of the celebration to mark Idd-El-Fitr, the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

Anite made the passionate call on Saturday while hosting over 80 Imams at her home in Koboko town for an iftar where she donated Islamic robes popularly known as Kanzu to the preachers.

The event was attended by the leaders of both wrangling groups, the district Khadi Sheikh Songa Abubakari Wailogo of the minority Tablique sect and the County Khadi Sheikh Abdullai Rajab of the majority Sunnis.

The leadership wrangle of Koboko Moslems has been long dragging and always flares up during moments to mark Idd over preaching rights at the grand occasion.

Anite's push to bring together the Moslems is the latest effort to try to bridge the wide gap between the sects.

During the iftar, Wailogo who cut an isolated and dejected figure took a backseat and did not say a word while Rajab monopolised the talking.

Both men however utilised the opportunity for a photo with the young minister during a symbolic handover although Rajab quickly pushed the robes to his side as soon as the camera's blinked.

"There is a lot of tribal and religious division in Koboko. But I want to ask the Moslems who are the majority population in the municipality to be exemplary in fostering unity," Anite emphasised.

She also asked the Moslems to preach against rising levels of sexual immorality which she attributed to cross-border infiltration.

Anite condemned alcoholic substance abuse and consumption of illicit drugs especially among the youths loitering along the town streets, regretting that some of the addicts are even Moslems.
