Kinyara Sugar Limited on Thursday treated the neighbouring community to Iftar (breaking the fast), the first of its kind in the company's history.

The ceremony was held at Kabango Mosque, Budongo Sub County, where Muslim faithful gathered for evening prayers and were later served with a special meal.

Religious leaders revealed that it was the first time the company mingled freely with the locals and they hope that such acts will continue.

While addressing the congregation, Kirunda Magoola, the communications and public relations manager at Kinyara said, "We are doing this as testimony to our communities that we would like to bridge the gap between us."

The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Godfrey Nyakahuma who joined the congregation for the ceremony, assured them that government plans to create a credit financial institution that will be providing loans to Muslims.

"It is against your faith to borrow money and pay back with interest. Therefore, since government wants to ensure that all people are helped out of poverty, plans of securing an institution that can lend money to the Muslim community are under way" Nyakahuma said.

Nyakahuma urged the congregation to always keep up with the spirit of helping the needy, which he said is a good deed for the community.

"Let your spirit of giving the needy continue even after the month of fasting," Nyakahuma urged.
