Holders, Wananchi continued their title defence with a commanding 5-0 victory against Weatherhead in the men’s division on Saturday at the Lugogo National Hockey stadium.

Skipper Derrick Akuwa was at the fore, grabbing a hattrick as Thomas Opio and Eugene Miheso registered a goal each to stifle Weatherhead.

“The win has given us some relief because we are now five points clear at the top. We have gained more confidence.” said Akuwa.

Wanachi moved to ten points at the top at the log and Weatherhead is currently second last and are yet to register a win in the league.

In the other game, Sam Mwesigwa and Sadik Aki’s goals made the difference for second placed Kampala as they fought off bottom placed Rockets with a 2-1 win.

Meanwhile in the ladies division, leaders Wananchi put up their best performance of the season so far with a 12-0 humbling of Weatherhead Jaguars on Sunday.

Doreen Mbabazi and Peace Anyango scored a hattrick a piece, Josefien De Ridder and Naume Makila scored a goal each as Amiya Mildred and Teddy Aciro grabbed doubles in the one-sided affair.
