Another Barcelona star is expected in the country during the first Uganda International Football Expo aimed at promoting sports tourism in the country. The event will be held at Namboole on July 30.

According to Hopeland Holdings CEO, Anthony Mulindwa, the Expo is aimed at promoting sports tourism and to unite all footballers, fans and the corporate world on one platform.

“Entry to the expo is free. The major aim is to improve our pitches and we want to interest corporate companies to come and sponsor our play grounds so that they become economically viable for the teams, but we also want to interest the local fans to support Ugandan football as much as they do with European football,” Mulindwa stated.

“We are certain one Barcelona star footballer will be with us and we are working on inviting another one from Real Madrid or Arsenal by close of the week,”

“We will instigate ‘football-tainment’ and we shall bring on people who can do ‘ball-batics’ and exhibit new products from the football world and we shall hold the first ever sports fashion show in the evening,” Mulindwa said.

But the expo is going to be preceded by a secondary schools football tournament that kicked off on Monday.

Kitende Secondary School beat St. James Kisubi SS 2-1 as the inaugural edition of the Pemba Schools tournament kicked off at Kitende SS football ground.

Ernest Ssuuna and Jacob Eyobu scored for Kitende in the first edition of the tournament that will climax at the first International Football Expo at Namboole on July 30.

Sammy Kabuuka scored St. James consolation in the opening match of the nine-school, one month tournament, organized in conjunction with Hopeland Holdings; aimed at growing football from the grassroots.

Nine schools will compete in the championship including Kibuli SS, St.Mary’s Kitende, Old Kampala and Mengo SS. The rest are Kings Way High, Kajjansi Progressive, Standard High Zzana, St.James and Kitende SS who featured in the opening match.

The top three schools will walk away with trophies and other goodies from the sponsors Pemba Sports Africa.

PSA Chairman Jackson Pemba who presided over the opening match alongside Corporate League Vice Chairmana Thomas Bamuteeze and Kitende SS Head teacher Ruth Muyinda urged the students to take their game seriously because they were the future of Ugandan football.
