Toro kingdom supreme council dissolved

KABAROLE - The King of Toro Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukiidi IV on Thursday dissolved the kingdom's supreme council to pave way for the swearing-in of new kingdom representatives.

The supreme council is composed of all clan leaders, county chiefs, kingdom ministers, crown bearers, among others.

"I thank you for all your endeavors to preserve and protect the dignity of your motherland Toro during your time in office" said Oyo at Mucwa.

He called on the people of Toro to remain calm, stressing that his reign has never abolished the kingdom's 1999 constitution.

"I want to inform all the people of Toro that the kingdom's constitution has never been abolished. I only ordered it to be taken for review."

Bernard Tungakwo, the kingdom prime minister, appealed to former members of the supreme council to always be ready and willing to serve the king and the monarchy once called upon.

He lauded members of the outgoing council for passing vibrant resolutions, including a resolution to renovate the kingdom's parliamentary building and upgrade it to hotel status for revenue generation.

Kingdom speaker Soul Mugasa said that new kingdom representatives have already been elected.

"The new government to be sworn in soon should ensure that the kingdom is represented fully and that all its systems right from village level are functional" said Mugasa.
