Best farmers 2015: Meet John Bagada

He currently processes his juice at Makerere University.

John Winter Bagada is 53 years old. His farm is located in Masindi. Enterprises on the farm include mangoes on 10 acres (total) - 850 trees. Of these 80% is Bagada mango variety which yields all year round.

The farm also has bananas on ½ acre, passion Fruit (owned by the son) and juice processing & packaging factory which is under construction. He currently processes his juice at Makerere University.

At Bagada`s farm, the family is involved in all farming activities. The wife, two daughters and three sons make their contribution during school holidays. This will ensure that the farm survives through generations. The book keeping which is up-to-date is done by one of the daughters.

All the enterprises are well organized and home hygiene is of acceptable standard. In the farm's backyard, Basangwa is constructing a juice processing & packaging factory.

He has adopted some conservation practices including mulching, intercropping, water harvesting. Also the farm generates biogas for home lighting and cooking.

Bagada trains potential mango growers. His estimated annual income is sh45m.
