Police took action following complaints lodged by the health inspector

Police in Tororo have arrested four women for resisting the on-going Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) exercise.

The suspects; Atwani Grace, Akoth Sarah Akoth, Awori Caroline and Akumu Damali are all residents of Asinge B village in Osukuru Sub County. They were arrested on Monday afternoon after they denied the spray operators to access their houses.

Their husbands Othieno Francis, Richard Osamai and Edward Wanjala fled into the swamp and nearby bush fearing to be arrested upon seeing the police.

The officer in charge of Osukuru police post Patrick Owori said they took action following complaints lodged by the health inspector who requested for reinforcement after some residents started threatening the spray operators.

‘'We shall not allow anybody to frustrate government programs in any way. We appeal to all those causing any inconvenience to spray operators to desist from their acts or else we shall pick and charge them'' Owori warned.

The suspects were taken to the sub county headquarters where they were held before being released to go and open their houses for spraying after caution.

Atwani told the police that they resisted the exercise because they were not informed of what was happening since the area LCI chairman who was supposed to have informed them was sick.

A source told New Vision that some residents are resisting the exercise on claims that the previous spray resulted into an outbreak of bedbugs something that is scientifically unproven.
