Defending champions KISU Bucks opened their defense of the NBA Junior League title with a 30-15 win over new entrants Gems Magic at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium on Saturday.

But they had to dig in for the win in the Division One of the Junior NBA despite having taller players than their opponents.

The champions and their opponents struggled to score, finishing the first quarter with a basket each.

Gems took the second quarter 4-2 but the champions stepped up in the third and fourth quarters leading 8-4 and 16-7 to register their first win.

George Okello led the Bucks with ten points with Petero Turemwa adding 7 for the Bukoto side whose next game is against Kalinabiri-Celtics who were also victors on the opening day with a 34-18 over the Emma High-Raptors.

Gems' Mustafa Lalani and Kizito Musoke's combined 16 points weren't enough to disrupt the champions.

In the other game Kalinabiri Celtics were also too good for the Emma High Raptors with Emos Epido (11pts) and Derrick Birungi (10pts) top scoring for the Celtics.

The Raptors had Bryan Ashaba notching all their points as season two tipped off with all teams present and having a photo opportunity with NBA Africa Director-Basketball Operations Kita Matungulu.

Thirty teams (450 players) will take part in this year's edition, including Aga Khan, GEMS Cambridge, Watoto School, St Mark Namagoma and Seeta high who have replaced Namilyango, Lubiri SS, Standard View, Ntinda view and Kisubi High.
