The holy month of Ramadhan is right around the corner.

KAMPALA - The director of Sharia of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) Sheikh Yahaya Ibrahim Kakungulu has advised Muslims in Uganda to watch for the moon this Sunday.

He says June 5 will be the 29th day of the Islamic month of Shaban 1437AH.

"If the moon is sighted during the evening of Sunday 5th June, fasting for this year's holy month of Ramadhan will commence on Monday 6th June 2016," says Sheikh Kakungulu in a missive.

And if the moon is not sighted on Sunday, fasting will automatically commence on Tuesday (June 7), he adds.

He also appeals to anyone who sights the moon or possesses reliable information to contact UMSC headquarters Old Kampala immediately at using the following numbers: 0772-525-171 or 0702-525-171(director of Sharia), 0772588316 (deputy director of Sharia), 0772409504 (UMSC spokesperson).
