Bunyoro king names two babies during his visit to Kiryandongo Maternity ward

The king toured some parts of the newly renovated Kiyrandongo hospitals which included the outpatient department, the theatre, the maternity and the hospital emergency room.

Kiryandongo town councilor came to a standstill as people lined up by the road side to welcome and have a glance at their king his majesty Solomon Agutamba Gafabusha Irugu. Children and women were seen dancing in their respective cultural traditions.

At exactly noon the king arrived in a convoy of about five vehicles with his seven ministers amidst cheers and ululations from the enthusiastic crowd that had waited for him since 7; 00am in the morning.

While at the maternity word, iguru was greeted by medicals workers and mothers who had delivered with their new born babies. While interacting with the mothers, the king decided to give names to two babies.

He named the girl Kabahamba since her father was a Muhamba from the Bahamba clan and the boy was named after the tribe of his father a mugungu giving him a name Mugungu. He even gave the two babies sh 50,000 each as a symbol performed during the naming of a child in Bunyoro culture.

He later addressed his subject at Kiryandongo C O U play ground where he urged them to guard against HIV spread. "You should guard against HIV if you are to remains healthy and productive to the kingdom because we need you to develop Bunyoro through engaging in productive work, "he said

Iguru also challenged his subjects to grow enough food which will help them to have enough to eat and to sell to improve on their house hold incomes.

Norman Lukumu the kingdom prime minister cautioned against chasing the kingdom subjects from the kingdom land.

"People who come to settle on Bunyoro land should respect the king, the kingdom and its norms and stop harassing our people citing an example in Kimogoro villages where investors are chasing away people from ranches," he said.

Lukumu noted that the kingdom will survey its land and open all the boundaries to make sure that everybody who wants land belonging to the kingdom is cleared by the kingdom through issuing certificates of occupancy to reduce on land wrangles in the kingdom.The locals also donated a goat to the king as a sign of appreciation .
