Lira Diocese pilgrims reach Kiryandongo

Pilgrims are to cover 380km to Namugongo shrine

About 275 Anglican and Catholic pilgrims from Lira Diocese in Lango sub-region have reached Kiryandongo district as they continue trekking to Namugongo Shrine for Martyrs Day on 3rd June.

The pilgrims set-off from Lira diocese on Tuesday and spent a night at Loro Town in Oyam district.

The pilgrims being led by Alfred Okello arrived in Kiryandongo district on Wednesday evening and spent a night in Diima Catholic Church.

They later went to Kigumba Parish Catholic Church in Kigumba town council on Thursday where they will spend two nights before they leave for Nakitoma in Nakasongola district on Saturday morning.

Pilgrims are to cover 380km to Namugongo shrine.

Okello said they have not registered any problem and everybody in the group is enjoying the walk.

Scovia Akullu who has trekked 8 times before said they will reach well.

The pilgrims are mainly youths and women with the youngest being 18-years-old and the oldest 79 years.
