Health minister Tumwesigye praises Reach Out Mbuya

Tumwesigye in a special way praised the late Fr. Joseph Archetti, an Italian Catholic priest of the Comboni Missionary Society, who founded the organisation in 2001.



The minister of health, Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye has praised the Directors and staff of Reach Out Mbuya HIV/AIDS Initiative for their dynamic involvement in the treatment and rehabilitation of HIV/AIDS infected and affected persons.

Tumwesigye in a special way praised the late Fr. Joseph Archetti, an Italian Catholic priest of the Comboni Missionary Society, who founded the organisation in 2001.

"Through your holistic approach, you have successfully treated and restored the hope of thousands of our people, who are infected and affected with the virus. We shall work closely with the Catholic Church to promote quality health care."

Dr. Tumwesigye was presiding over the celebrations for the 15th anniversary of Reach Out Mbuya HIV/AIDS Initiative at the organisation's headquarters in Mbuya, on Friday. Reach Out Mbuya, which started in a very humble way, currently has about 10,000 clients with clinics in Kampala and Luweero. The organisation also takes care of thousands of HIV/AIDS orphans. It also has programmes of economic empowerment for its clients.

During the function, pioneer volunteers of the organisation namely Rita Namirimu, Margaret Kironde, Esther Nassali, Auma Achire, Rose Ochen and Olivia Babirye, were given meritorious certificates and gifts.

Those who gave testimonies included Harriet Akiiki, Henry Gonzaga, a student of Mass Communication and Brian Odoki, who has just been admitted to Gulu University for Medicine.

The function was also graced by the representative of Centre for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC), Elizabeth Genter, Dr. Sabrina Kitaka, Major Rubaramira Ruranga of the Uganda Aids Commission, Fr. John Mungereza and Dr. Betty Nsangi, the Executive Director of Reach Out Mbuya.
