Entebbe residents receive free health services at Rotarians' Assembly

Last Saturday, over 2,000 residents of Entebbe received free healthcare camps organised by the rotary club of Nkumba.
The services offered included HIV testing and counselling, free male circumcision as well as screening for prostate and cervical cancers. Other services were blood donation, malaria testing and treatment as well as dental and optical services.
The camps were held at St Apollo Kivebulya Church, Mayor's Garden Entebbe and Kisubi gardens.
George Mirie, the President, Rotary club of Nkumba, said the initiative was aimed at supplementing government efforts of extending healthcare to Ugandans.
"There are some people who cannot access government healthcare owing to various reasons such as lack of transport to health centres. Poverty prevents many from getting medication or screening of curable diseases that later become disastrous," he said.

He added that it was against that background that the club organised such camps where they also offered free transport to some elderly people.
Samson Mugumya, a resident of Entebbe, lauded the initiative, saying he has always felt pain in his eyes, but luckily he after testing, he was offered glasses and medicine.
In addition to the health camps, of the celebrations of the 91st District Conference and Assembly (DCA) of District 9211 included conferences at Imperial Resort Hotel, Entebbe.

Over 1,500 delegates from the government and private sector came together to celebrate milestones in the extension of Rotarian services to humanity.
The conferences and health camps were part of the four-day celebrations (May 4-7), according to Edwin Mogere, the service project of the Nkumba club.

Rotary International, is a social service organisation, divided into districts named according to location. Two countries, Uganda and Tanzania, make district 9211 which has 120 clubs, including the rotary club of Nkumba.
