Licensed players barred from FUFA corporate tourney

May 04, 2016

Only women are allowed to play

Group 1: Airtel Uganda, BIDCO, SSL Logistics, Nile Breweries Limited

Group 2: FUFA XI, Pramot Steel, UPL, Red Pepper

Group3: National Water and Sewage Corporation, Crane Bank, NIC, Power Horse

FUFA has ruled out licensed players from competing in its annual corporate tournament save for players registered for the women's league.

While making the draws for the tournament slated for Saturday at the FUFA technical centre in Njeru, Decolas Kiiza announced that only the women were allowed to play.

The decision is inclined towards the belief that female soccer players are weaker and less talented compared with their male counterparts but talented Ugandan women footballers have always mesmerized spectators at games.

And because there is no limit to how many female players can be fielded at ago, participating teams that will turn up with more good female players stand high a chance of clinching the trophy.

National Water and Sewage Corporation (NWSC) will have to negotiate past Crane Bank, NIC and Power Horse to defend their title.

NWSC which beat a group of Ex-Internationals on penalties in the final last year was yesterday drawn against the three in group one of the annual tournament that has attracted 12 corporate teams.

Nile Breweries Limited, SSL Logistics, FUFA XI, Bidco Uganda Limited, National Insurance Corporation, Crane Bank and Power Horse were drawn for the competition.

FUFA organizes the tournament annually to give it an avenue to interact with its sponsors and partners. The winner bags top prize of sh1m cash, gold medals and a trophy.
