MPs approve sh26 trillion budget for 2016/17 financial year

Parliament has approved a sh26.3trillion national budget for the 2016/2017 financial year, amidst protest by the MPs questioning the increase in the budget from the initial sh21 trillion presented to parliament, to over Sh 26 trillion.

The budget passed on Tuesday night, is about sh3 trillion higher, compared to the sh24 trillion current budget, for the 2015/2016 financial year.

Last week, the House deferred the passing of the budget, after the government failed to submit required documents for the budget committee to harmonies budget estimates with those presented in the ministerial policy statements.

The budget is scheduled to be read officially by teh finance minister  Matia Kasaija next month.
