"This promotion is the first of its kind in the world," City Tyres managing director Abdullahi Ahmed told the New Vision Monday at City Tyres Kamwokya, where the promotion was officially launched.

"We contacted Formula 1 through Pirelli and after a little hesitation they accepted. Because when we made our request, they asked 'why should we allow you to do it and not anyone else?' And we told them, 'because we are the ones who have asked'."

Pirelli are F1's official tyre supplier and boast a yearly turnover of nearly €7b, making them the world's fifth largest tyre manufacturer.
