University football: Busitema, UCU through to quarters

Apr 29, 2016

Busitema dominated the opening half and had an early lead to show for.

Uganda Christian University (UCU) was held to a one-all draw in the University Football League at UCU grounds on Friday.

Walaga Joshua scored for Busitema in the 15th minute before Robert Mugisha equalized early in the second half for the hosts.

Both sides needed one point to book a place in the quarter-finals - a target they managed to achieve.

Busitema dominated the opening half, especially in the midfield, and they had an early lead to show for.

Walaga nodded home from a free-kick delivered by their left-back. He could have done even much better later on but the forward mistimed his run when all he had to do was tap in.

UCU returned a brighter side from the break and saw and had more of the ball in the second half.

They pile pressure on the visitors, launching attack after attack, and it was almost inevitable that they found the equalizer at the hour's mark, thanks to Mugisha's strike.

That was his second goal of the tournament after previously scoring against Kampala International University.

Reactions

UCU team captain Jerome Luzinda hailed his side's fighting spirit. "Thank God we have managed to qualify for the quarter finals."

Busitema goal scorer Walaga Joshua said: "Our strategy has worked; we needed a point to be on the safe side."
