Team Uganda returns with 11 medals

They were challenged to compete in 50-metre swimming pools whereas they train in a 25m pool

The national swimming team that went to Mauritius for the 14th edition of the Africa championship CANA Zone IV returned home Tuesday afternoon with 11 medals.

However despite winning medals they were challenged to compete in 50-metre swimming pools whereas they train in a 25m pool, according to Abbey Ddamulira, the team manager and coach.

"We had a good team and I'm happy. We should have performed better but because we train in a 25m pool," Ddamulira stated.

The team which had Ambala Atuhairwe, Nabil Saleh, Salima Katumba,Ben Kaganda,Nicholas Malon and others was received by National council of sports (NCS) assistant secretary David Katende.

He promised the team of NCS full support during the CANA Zone III championship later this year in Zimbabwe.

The team of nine athletes won Gold, five Silvers and five bronze medals and Uganda Swimming federation Secretary Moses Mwase said their focus turns on sourcing resources in preparation for Zone III championship.

The championship run from April 20-23.
