Buganda Regional League: Free Stars 2 Kiwanga 1

Apr 24, 2016

Saturday’s was the last league game for both teams this season.

Free Stars FC beat Kiwanga FC in the Buganda Regional League at their home ground at UCU ground in Mukono.

Alex Mubeezi and Ken Kayira scored to earn the hosts three points while Ryan Kiyini netted Kiwanga's only goal in the second half.

Saturday's was the last game for both teams in the league.

Free Stars finished with 16 points but remain in the bottom three zone. For Kiwanga, defeat had no impact on them, keeping at 22 points.

Mubeezi opened the scoreline in the 15th minute when he was fed in by Kayira and beat the keeper.

The statistic should have been greater in favour of the home side, but a series of squandered opportunities kept Kiwanga still in it.

In fact, the visitors maintained their composure even when trailing, and held on through the remainder of the opening half.

After the interval, they found the equalizer when they caught Free Stars on the break - Tonny Magala's cross found Kiyini who slotted home at the hour mark.

Ten minutes to the end of the game, substitute Joshua Kirathe split the defence to fee in Kayira at the blind side to score what would go on to be the winner.

They might have won but for now, Free Stars' survival will depend on how many teams are for relegation. If it is two, they will escape the drop, but if it is three, down they will go - to the First Division League.

Local football governing body FUFA will make that decision.
