'Malwa group' chairperson murdered over sh2,000

A 'malwa group' chairperson in Ongino sub county, Kumi district was pounded to death by one of the group members over sh2000.

The incident happened at Monday night at a drinking joint in Morio Aakumi village.

The deceased, Charles Ochola, was the chairperson of a group of people who pool resources together for locally brewed alcohol was punched after a group member disagreed on a sh2000 balance from what had been collected.

It is reported that the group members had collected money for a bucket of brewed local alcohol but a balance of sh2000 was realized above what was needed.

The deceased, being the chairperson of the group, proposed the balance be used for buying soya for members to share but one Okiror Ochekichek disagreed, saying the money be divided among them.

This disagreement escalated into a brawl and a fight erupted between the chairperson and Okiror, who also happened to be the owner of the home from where they took the local brew.

Ochola is reported to have succumbed to internal bleeding after sustaining injuries on his abdomen, and was pronounced dead on arrival at Ongino hospital.

Jacob Emau, OC police, Ongino, said the deceased was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival to Ongino hospital where he had been rushed for treatment.

"The suspect is on the run but police is trying to locate him to face murder charges," he said.

Juventino Okello, father to the deceased, is still recovering from shock over how is son was killed over sh2000, saying he has left a family of four.

A postmortem report showed Ochola's been damaged, which led to excessive bleeding that led to his death.
