Busoga Bishop's influence to reduce

Apr 19, 2016

Last year, the House of Bishops failed twice to elect a bishop for Central Busoga Diocese

The Bishop of Busoga Diocese, Can. Paul Naimanhye has disclosed his official jurisdiction over Iganga, Luuka, Namutumba and Kaliro districts will end this year.

Naimanhye revealed that by 2017, his status while in these districts comprising Central Busoga Diocese would change to ‘visitor'.

"Actually I can say I am blessed because I am currently also presiding over the area as bishop yet Central Busoga Diocese exists. By November, that wouldn't be the case anymore," Naimanhye told New Vision on Monday.

According to him, Central Busoga Diocese is to get a bishop within a few months' time paving way for a consecration ceremony in November.

Last year, the House of Bishops failed twice to elect a bishop for Central Busoga Diocese citing a legal technicality.

Can. Patrick Mutalwa, the archdeacon of Iganga observed that a team from the provincial assembly had been dispatched to enlighten the Electoral College on how to conduct their duty.

"The electoral college is mandated with choosing two names from which the house of bishops can elect the best suited candidate," Mutalwa said.

Fred Kasiisa, vice-chairman of the bishop consecration committee said a 30-member team had been assembled to prepare for the November function.

"Arrangements are already underway to make the event be successful. We hope this time round everything would go according to plan," Kasiisa said.

Esther Nandase, a member of the committee said Christians, well-wishers and friends had been approached to contribute towards the noble cause
