Hat types and what we love about them

Apr 13, 2016

This is the new matron’s head gear. Originally from England, the fascinator is flowery replica of the hat and is often accompanied with feathers and other embellishments.

Hats are lovely accessories especially for outdoor events such as the popular Blankets and wine festival. There are plenty of hats for both men and women and each serve a different purpose. Let's break them down, shall we?

Fascinators

This is the new matron's head gear. Originally from England, the fascinator is flowery replica of the hat and is often accompanied with feathers and other embellishments.

For all its beauty and extravagance, the fascinator is a preserve for evening wear or a fancy outdoor event .Too bad the goat races are not here anymore.

The floppy hat/straw hat

This is a personal favourite of mine because of its large nature that offers a large shade of protection against the sun.

The floppy hat is always glamorous especially if the wearer is tall enough to pull it off and gives them an instant appeal of glamour, no matter what they are wearing.

The floppy hat is best worn with a pair of trousers and blouse or a long flowy chiffon dress and matching accessories a la Judith heard style.

The fedora Hat

The fedora hat usually comes in woollen or thick material and is usually wrapped with a ribbon around it.

It is the original English gentleman's hat although recent designs have been altered to suit the tastes of this generation.

They are unisex and a favourite of both men and women. A fedora hat is best worn with formal wear such as a suit or trousers for women.
