Gov't registers guns, exercise ends this month

Government has launched a massive registration of all fire arms in the country. Civilians with fire arms have been asked to take them for registration.

The initiative comes in awake of several murders.

Registration of firearms takes place at all District Police headquarters countrywide and will go on up to April 30.

State minister for internal affairs, James Baaba, told a news conference in Kampala on Monday that the move is intended to curb the growing crime rate in the country where many lives have been lost.

The ministers said that tough penalty await those who will not have registered by the set deadline.
