UMEME sued over trespass

The plaintiff says UMEME trespassed on his land and erected electric poles without his consent.

An administrator of an estate located at Buwasa village, Mayumba sub-country in Wakiso District has dragged UMEME to court for trespass and destruction of crops and plantations, seeking to recover sh100m as general damages.

Kato Jjunju Nassan, who described himself as a grandson of Yosefu Kateregga the owner of the estate, also sued seeking a permanent injunction restraining UMEME from further wasting, alienating and disposing of his land.

According to the plaintiff, the land is in Busiro on Block 8, Plot 59 located at Buwasa, Namayumba in Wakiso District.

It is alleged that UMEME trespassed on his land and erected electric poles without his consent. The defendant's agents destroyed his food and cash crops that included coffee plantation and valuable trees as they fixed a transformer.

He avers that he has suffered great loss and inconveniences as a result of UMEME'S illegal actions for which he would seek for general damages.

Jjunju, who filed his law suit through Kajeke, Maguru and Company Advocates, contends that he would seek to recover sh100m for damages as per the evaluation report. Meanwhile, the court has ordered UMEME to file its defence within 15 days.
