UPDF hunts for Rwenzori killers

The Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) on Wednesday launched an operation aimed at reinstating peace and stability in the Rwenzori region.
The operation codenamed ‘Usalama Rwenzori' is covering 3 districts; Kasese, Ntoroko and Bundibugyo. This where the recent tribal clashes between the Bamba and Bakonjo occurred and left over 40 people dead and hundreds displaced.
Brig Peter Elweru the brigade commander Western Region flagged off the operation at Kibuku. He said government was determined to restore peace in the area.
"We want to see people back into their homes to engage in developmental social economic activities," Brig Elweru said.
He said that during the operation, the UPDF will apprehend and bring to book all the perpetrators of peace in the region.
According to Elweru, under the Usalama Rwenzori operation, the UPDF will comb the Rwenzori Mountain, secure the population by forming mobile and zonal forces to occupy and dominate strategic points especially in Bugendera County where the attackers are believed to be having their training ground.
