Food prices have increased in Gulu markets as vendors travel long distances to purchase produce.

Grace Acayo, a produce dealer at Cereleno market says, the price of beans, maize and groundnuts, among others, has shot up due to scarcity in the local markets.

Acayo notes that the price of yellow beans has risen from sh2,800 to sh3,500 per kilogram, while red beans now cost sh3,000 and black beans that are locally called "agwede", costs sh1,800 a kilogram.

Acayo adds that the price of groundnuts has also increased drastically from sh3,500 to sh5,000 per kilogram, while the price of maize has gone from sh 900 to sh1,200 per kilogram.

She attributes the rise in the prices to shortage of these produce in the local markets which in the end compels them to travel up to Kapchorwa, Hioma, Kampala and western Uganda to purchase them
