Seven charged for being public nuisance, remanded

The youths chained themselves to lamp posts around the city center while donning 'free my vote t-shirts

Seven youths who protested against the presence security officers at Dr. Kizza Besigye's home, by chaining themselves to lamp posts around the city center while donning 'free my vote t-shirts', have been charged with being a public nuisance.

They were arraigned today evening before the Buganda Road Court Grade one Magistrate, Gladys Musenze Kamasanyu who remanded them to Luzira prison after they denied the allegations leveled against them.

According to the prosecution the youths, on March 31, 3016, along Shoprite supermarket, Clock Tower and Ben Kiwanuka, through their unknown group, conducted themselves in a manner that interrupted the activities in those areas.

The charges were translated in Luganda for those who could not understand English.

They include Khamadi Sebayiga, 20, from Makindye, latif Bazibu, 20, Didas Mugisha, 26, Badru Magumba, 23, Isaac Kyagulanyi, 20, Sande Kiweewa and Alex Apangu.

Their lawyer, Abdallah Kizza, applied for bail but the magistrates declined to grant them and remanded them to Luzira prison till April 18, 2016  when the case will come up for bail and hearing.
