She was forced to drop out of school after her mother failed to pay for her education

Like all youngsters who make it to P7, Evelyn Nakate was excited and had big dreams when she made it to her first candidate class at Kabowa Trinity School in Kabowa, a Kampala suburb. Unfortunately, she was forced to drop out of school in the first term of that very year.

Nakate who recently turned 25 vividly remembers the incident with sadness; explaining that she saw her dreams of becoming a nurse fly away as she looked on helplessly.

"I had invested lot of effort in my studies in order to achieve my dream. I would revise till late and wake up very early in order to catch up with the morning lessons. I could hardly believe it when my mother woke up one morning and told me she no longer had money to pay for my education!" she recalls ruefully.

"I cried and pleaded but she stood her ground affirming that she could not afford to pay for my P7 so I dropped out."

Wamukisa Youth Centre intervened in her life. Today, this 25-year-old not only trains other teen mothers in practical skills for livelihood but is the proud owner of Kitala village near Kisubi.
