Bukedde, New Vision to battle for UK trip
Mar 31, 2016
New Vision are drawn in Group 5 that has Mengo Hospital, Letshego, MTN and Nile Breweries
KAMPALA - Vision Group's New Vision and Bukedde are ready to challenge other 38 teams that will battle for a slot to travel to the UK and visit the home of Liverpool in Anfield.
The two teams were among the 40 that were drawn at the Standard Chartered Cup 2016 draws that took place at Serena Hotel Thursday morning.
Action in the one-day event is set for Namboole stadium on Saturday, with the winning team being given a full-expense-paid air ticket to visit Liverpool - watch a game between Liverpool and Watford and also interact with Liverpool legends.
New Vision, who battled till the quarterfinal in last year's edition, were drawn in Group 5 that has Mengo Hospital, Letshego, MTN and Nile Breweries, while Bukedde will be battling it out with Monitor, BIDCO, QTE and Standard Chartered B in Group 6.
"This is a football brand that gives us a breather and is bringing the soft touch of football from the competitive touch of national team and clubs," said the federation chief executive Edgar Watson.
Edgars Peter Makanga explains the rules of the tournament
"It brings out the gesture of football cutting across just beyond competing as it ensures the true spirit of the game which ensures socializing and fitness, which we expect to see on Saturday."
Watson also warned that the federation has set strict rules to ensure that only those people that do not play licensed games will take part in the five-a-side competition.
"In case someone fails in this, he will be sanctioned and his team will be disqualified. Sports all over the world are about fair play and that is what we are doing."
Head of brand and marketing of Standard Chartered Bank, Cynthia Mpanga, also warned teams that only the players whose names have been registered will be able to travel to UK for the trip.
"We will not change the names. The names that will appear in the registration form should rhyme with those that will appear on the travel documents or else the entire team will be disqualified," she cautioned.
