It is alleged that the candidate was was disqualified on grounds that his qualifications were rather forged and unauthentic

Patrick Owona Komakech who was contesting as an independent candidate in the Kyambogo guild presidential race has been disqualified from the race by the university Electoral Commission body.

Komakech despite appearing on the ballot paper, it is alleged that he was was disqualified on grounds that his qualifications were rather forged and unauthentic.

Efforts to get to get a comment from the university‘s administration were futile as the Dean of students who is in charge of the electoral process and student affairs declined to give a comment on the matter without any sound reason.

Our efforts were further frustrated when the University Electoral Commission chairman, Felix Hirya also declined stating that he had been given a directive by the dean not to disclose any information as yet.

However some sources who preferred anonymity say that Komakech‘s University identification card had expired.  Efforts to reach Komakech were also unsuccessful as his mobile phone was switched off therefore making it hard to reach him for a comment.

The voting exercise which kicked off at 9 O’clock this morning with various polling stations at the different faculties was smooth and is expected to end today at 6 O’clock in the evening followed by an immediate tallying of the results according to Hirya.

“We will be tallying results this evening and the winner will be declared today by midnight,” Hirya said.

The candidates in the race are Solomon Ngoboka (NRM), Lawrence Lugalavu (FDC), Fahad Bahat and Michael Aisu who are both independent.
